Rhenus partners with Geek + to develop its first AMR warehouse in Asia

Geek +, a global leader in AMR, and Rhenus Logistics are proud to announce the successful deployment of the first Rhenus warehouse operated by AMR in Hong Kong. The impact of COVID-19 continues to be felt on global supply chain operations as labor market disruption has exacerbated labor shortages. Innovation and solutions-driven logistics provider Rhenus Hong Kong will adopt advanced robotics and AI technologies from Geek + as part of a proof-of-concept warehousing project in the country. This is Rhenus’ latest initiative in the region and is part of its ongoing strategy to deepen its focus on IT-driven digitization by leveraging smart logistics to build a sustainable supply chain and robust.

Since 2019, Rhenus has made strategic, technology-driven investments in Greater China, particularly in its warehousing business division, including automated solutions to improve the efficiency of its warehouses and operational processes. With the Geek + solution, Rhenus Hong Kong can handle large order volumes, respond flexibly to rapidly changing SKUs, and improve order fulfillment performance. The Hong Kong site will be Rhenus’ first smart warehouse in Asia-Pacific.

Cliff Xu, CEO of Rhenus Air & Ocean Greater China, said, “Our aim is to provide the best and most innovative logistics service to enable faster and more flexible movement of goods, to meet the rapid growth of e-commerce. By working closely with Geek +, we not only achieve warehouse digitization, but also improve operational efficiency and accuracy, resulting in greater savings for customers in the long run.

The Rhenus Hong Kong warehouse will use Geek + Goods-to-person solutions. Robots will be used as part of the system to automatically deliver goods to operators, with 99.99% accuracy. The solution also maximizes warehouse storage as aisle space is minimized.

One of the hallmarks of the AI-based system are the proprietary algorithms of Geek +. They optimize order combinations and adjust inventory layout in real time, maximizing efficiency. In Rhenus Hong Kong’s warehouse, more than 2,000 cosmetic product references are constantly classified according to their popularity and expiration date.

Lit Fung, Vice President, General Manager APAC, UK & Americas at Geek +, said: “We believe that upgrading the smart warehouse is the only answer to the rapidly growing e-commerce business and increasing customer expectations.
