Launched in 2020 to give customers access to unique artisan cheeses from across the country, the program has been met with such enthusiasm, UNFI has expanded it to a second warehouse to serve Pacific Northwest customers. .
UNFI customers using the program can order from a premier group of highly selected growers from every region of the country, such as Jasper Hill Farm of VT, Green earth farms of MO, Tulip Tree Creamery of IN and Cowgirl Creamery of CA. Handled with exceptional care, the majority of produce is transported directly from each farm through a partnership with Southwest Airlines, personally picked up at the airport, and delivered to each retailer, ensuring they get the freshest product possible. Following the expansion of the second warehouse, UNFI’s American Artisan Cheese program now serves more than 200 retailers in six states, doubling the size of the program since its launch in fall 2020.

With judging taking place May 19-20 at Huntington Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Campus, the competition will highlight America’s top cheesemakers for quality cheese making and their commitment to food safety. A UNFI cheese specialist will participate as a judge this year, and the company will also donate refrigerated trailers to store more than 6,000 pounds. of cheese for the event.
